Language Education Training Speech
Our NEW 2020-21 Training Brochure
now includes online training.
World Down Syndrome Day (WSDS) is the 21st March and this year the focus is on improving connections to ensure that all people with Down syndrome can connect and participate on an equal basis with others. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact for all this past year and at LETS Go! we have had to adapt like many others to ensure we could contnue to support families, educators and groups through our services.
The pandemic called a halt to face to face services 2 weeks before the Easter holidays but the LETS Go! team would not be stopped! Thanks to the flexibility, creativity and hard work of our team all services – early development groups, nursery support, school outreach and training - were being offered in a remote format by the start of the Summer term just four weeks later.
One of our services is the School Outreach Support service and with families having to educate at home it became even more important to continue to offer support to these children/pupils. Since that time, some visits have been possible but remote services have continued to play an essential role.
Our visits to school were adapted to online appointments with families and/or schools. We then developed resources that could be sent electronically for families/schools to print and provide activities to work on at home in structured and more fun/practical ways. Very early on it became apparent how difficult it was to explain activities over Zoom so we put together some short videos explaining common activities.
In order to celebrate WDSD and to connect with other families/schools we thought we would share some of these activities and ideas by making these videos public during March 2021. We also want to say a huge thank you to the local charities Stepping Stones, Andover Twenty 1 and Portsmouth DSA who have continued to fund this School Outreach Service for their members. It has been a very difficult time for many families and charity events have obviously been disrupted.
If you find these ideas useful we ask that you help us to say thank you by donating to these local charities using the Virgin Money Giving page. Donations are optional and at your discretion, we would suggest £5 or whatever you can afford. All money raised will automatically be dispersed equally between these three charities. Without the continued funding from these charities, these videos would not have been possible.
